Structured data (Schema): how to stand out in Google results

Structured data (also called „schema markup“) is a special code language you use to explain to Google what your page is about. The result – richer, more noticeable search results.

What it is

It's extra information (usually in JSON-LD format) added to the page's code. It's invisible to the visitor but helps Google understand the content: whether it's a product, article, recipe, business or FAQ.

What it unlocks

Structured data unlocks „rich snippets“ – enhanced results:

  • Rating stars and reviews.
  • Prices and availability (for products).
  • FAQs right in the search result.
  • Breadcrumbs.
Rich results take up more space and attract more clicks – even at the same position.

The most common types

The most used: LocalBusiness (for local businesses), Product (for stores), Article (for posts), FAQ, Review and BreadcrumbList.

How to add and test it

You can add it manually (JSON-LD) or via plugins („Yoast“, „Rank Math“). Check it with Google's Rich Results Test tool – it shows whether the markup works.
